Ingredients

Scale

Dip Ingredients

  • 1 (16-ounce) container sour cream
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup cooked and chopped chicken or beef
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Bread Bowl

  • 1 (16-ounce) French bread loaf

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure the dip bakes evenly and achieves a warm, melty texture.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine sour cream, softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, cooked chicken or beef, chopped green onion, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir until well blended and creamy.
  3. Prepare the Bread Bowl: Cut a thin slice off the top of the French bread loaf and set aside. Using a gentle sawing motion, hollow out the inside of the bread, leaving about a ½ inch crust to create a bread bowl. Alternatively, you can use a greased baking dish for the dip.
  4. Fill the Bread Bowl: Spoon the dip mixture inside the hollowed bread bowl. Place the reserved top slice back onto the loaf. Wrap the entire loaf tightly in aluminum foil to promote even baking and prevent the bread from burning.
  5. Bake the Dip: Place the foil-wrapped bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, allowing the flavors to meld and the dip to become gooey and creamy.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Carefully remove the foil and serve the dip immediately with bread cubes, crackers, or tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • You can soften cream cheese quickly by leaving it at room temperature for 30 minutes or microwaving for about 15 seconds.
  • For a traditional twist, substitute cooked ham instead of chicken or beef.
  • Adjust the hot sauce amount based on your spice preference.
  • This dip can also be baked in a casserole dish if you prefer not to use a bread bowl.
  • Serve with crisp bread cubes or tortilla chips for the best dipping experience.
