Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup salted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 egg yolks, at room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla bean paste or extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Mix-ins

  • 1/2 cup red and green M&M’s
  • 1/3 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup pretzel pieces
  • 1/3 cup potato chip pieces
  • 2 tbsp red and green jimmies

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pans: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside for later use to prevent sticking and promote even baking.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, combine the softened salted butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Using an electric mixer, cream them together for about two minutes until the mixture is light, fluffy, and well combined.
  3. Add Egg Yolks and Vanilla: Add the egg yolks and vanilla bean paste or extract to the creamed mixture. Mix on medium speed for two minutes until the batter turns pale in color and becomes fluffy, ensuring good incorporation.
  4. Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to the wet mixture. Mix just until combined to avoid overworking the dough and maintain tender cookies.
  5. Fold in Mix-ins: Add the red and green M&M’s, white chocolate chips, pretzel pieces, potato chip pieces, and red and green jimmies. Gently fold these in using a spatula, ensuring even distribution without breaking the mix-ins.
  6. Scoop and Arrange Dough: Scoop the dough into 20 balls of even size, spacing them about two inches apart on the prepared baking sheets. This spacing allows the cookies to spread without running into each other.
  7. Optional Decoration: Optionally, press a few extra mix-ins on top of each dough ball for a decorative, festive appearance and enhanced texture.
  8. Bake the Cookies: Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Bake for 10 minutes if you prefer chewy centers, or 12 minutes for crisper edges, keeping a close eye to prevent overbaking.
  9. Optional Shaping: While the cookies are still warm and just out of the oven, use a large circular cookie cutter to gently swirl around each cookie. This will reshape them into perfect circles and help press all mix-ins together for a uniform look.
  10. Cool Cookies: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes to set up, then transfer them to a wire cooling rack to cool completely for about 10 more minutes.
  11. Storage: Once cooled, store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days to maintain freshness and texture.

Notes

  • For best texture, do not overmix the dough once the flour is added.
  • Use room temperature egg yolks to help create a fluffy batter.
  • Adding extra mix-ins on top of the dough balls before baking creates a prettier presentation but is optional.
  • Use the cookie cutter shaping step immediately out of the oven for best results while cookies are still soft.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh and prevent them from becoming stale.
  • Feel free to customize with different festive mix-ins if desired.
